Digital Divide

The definition of "Digital Divide" says that it's an economic and social inequality with regard to access to, use of, or impact of information and communication technologies (ICT).

The Divide is an space between people who can have access to the new technologies, more information, culture, fast communication..etc. And people who cannot have them and still live using old obsolete gadgets and ways to communicate, study, work...etc.
There is another segregation of old people, those who because of their ages/years do not have enough techonology knowledge to use them.

This desadvantage is not only betwixt the population but also between countries in process of development which have  not mordenize yet.
This is another approach of  classifying th people who conforms  a society between rich and poor ones.
At first, it was thought that there was going to be a delay in some  social sectors, groups and countries but this was supposed to  be overcome in a few years thanks to the computers and Internet connections. But, as we can see this has not been achieved yet.

We can find different causes of segregation:
  • Economic:  People who cannot afford buying a new  electronic gadget or do not have conection.
  • Political factores: People who live in contries with limitation of freedom expression.
  • Different disabilities: Blind or deaf people with limitations because some technologies are not designed for being accesible to everyone. This also happens with limited mobility or mental disability.
  • Formation: Many people do not have enough knowledge about ICT.
  • Age: Usually, it's more difficult for people after 50 years to use an electronic divice
